Happy Valentine’s Day

At Penn's Landing

to all who love and are loved! I know there are mixed opinions concerning the celebration of Valentine’s Day.  Perhaps it is an over commercialized Hallmark holiday.  I’ve heard the arguments.  OK, so we should be romantic and do special things for our spouse all the time, not just once a year.  Yes, it can be a little one sided: the girl gets the flowers and the chocolates and the jewelry and the guy gets the goofy heart-printed boxers.  (Actually, I got a Princess Peach game for my Nintendo DS, so cute!)  But why object to a celebration of romance? I mean real, sweet, knock-your-socks-off romance–not the contrived stuff you see on the Zales commercials.  YES, it should happen more than once a year.  But it CAN’T happen every day, so I choose to embrace the opportunity that Valentine’s Day affords.  Happy Valentine’s Day to all and especially to my own sweetheart, John.

Happy Commercialized Hallmark Holiday, Ruth! :-D No, I’m kidding…kinda. Now that I know you’re all about the Victorian stuff, it is no wonder you like V-Day. Hey this is a great picture of you two, BTW. What are the lights off in the distance?

I hear you and agree it’s nice to have an “especially” day to shower our valentines with extra love. Any occasion which sanctions chocolates is fine by me! :)

I just love reading your writings!!!! Always have and probably always will!!! You’re rendition about this holiday today is great! You pretty much hit every argument on the head!
That’s a great picture of you and John! It’s good to see more pictures of the two of you!

Thanks, guys! It’s an older picture… like maybe a year or two ago. We were at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia, and the lights in the distance are the Ben Franklin Bridge which crosses over the Delaware River, connecting Philadelphia and Camden, New Jersey. It’s where we got engaged, and we like to revisit the scene every so often.

YES, I am a hopeless sap! (But I grew out of the Victorian phase–at least for home decor)

I am with you Ruth. I think that we should love our one and only everyday, but to have one special day just to show it is great. Doesn’t matter what I get I actually love just giving things :)
Great picture, sounds like the picture of Tabor and I on our website. It is from Disney World two years ago. But it is one that I really like. I had Aly take one of us the other day but most of it was the floor. :)

This is totally unrelated to anything, but do you know what is up with Sarah? She hasn’t posted since Christmas! Just wondering how they are doing and looking forward to more pictures of their cuties!

    Ruth and John,

Sarah and I both agree that we love the picture. We both said “Aw” at the same time. It is such a blessing to see you both so happy and loving to one another, all the while having lives focused on the Lord. I suppose having a focus on the Lord brings about the first two things.

By the way Ruth, this year I got the chocolates. Sarah bought me a whole box of my favorite chocolates: Russel Stovers Butter Cream Caramels. And it’s not the mixed variety mind you… It’s 32 delicious pieces of Butter Cream Caramel.

(I got a whole day with my Honey before the baby came…an ice storm was quite welcome on Valentine’s Day =) –Sarah)

Well, we look forward to seeing you both, and introducing you to your nephew. Sarah already told the baby all about you, and he can’t wait to meet you.

    JDM Says:

So, Ruth. Now that we share a nephew, we are DEFINITELY related, wouldn’t you say? Now if we can only figure out exactly what to call it. Aunts in law? No that can’t be right….

Jenny, I would say we are as close to related as it gets. We’ll have to come up with a name for it.

Yay! It’s so cool that we have a new nephew to share!

I open doors with turn handles by turning the handle up instead of down.

Yes, that’s weird. My parents recently installed a new door going to the back yard that swings open (versus the sliding glass one that was becoming a pane, urr, I mean pain). Anyway, the inside has one of those handles that you have to turn. Only problem is that for us “normal people” (I never thought I’d describe myself that way), the only way to open the door is by lifting the handle up.

And then there’s your blog that does weird things….Really, I couldn’t figure out why the above comments didn’t fit the seven weird things thread, and then I submitted my comment and I came up on this post (yes, the link I clicked in my bloglines RSS reader was for the seven weird things).
